With profound sadness yet hearts full of gratitude for a well-lived life, we celebrate the remarkable journey of Alvin Walter Franklin, a beloved father, brother, uncle, athlete, entrepreneur, and friend. Born on December 19, 1962, to the late Dorothy and Raymond Franklin, Sr., Alvin was the fifth of six brothers. He grew up with resilience, strong family bonds, and a lighthearted spirit that shaped his extraordinary life. From an early age, Alvin’s life was guided by faith. He was introduced to Christ at Greater Bell Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Zephaniah Phillips. A proud product of La Marque Independent School District, Alvin’s natural talent and relentless dedication to excellence propelled him to greatness both on and off the court. A distinguished graduate of the Class of 1982, he was a basketball prodigy, earning All-American honors in both his junior and senior years. His high school career was nothing short of legendary, including an unforgettable game where he scored 52 points, solidifying his reputation as a force to be reckoned with. His exceptional skills led him to the University of Houston, where he became a celebrated member of the iconic Phi Slama Jama, cementing his place in college basketball history. In 1986, Alvin was selected as a 4th-round draft pick by the Sacramento Kings, a testament to his talent and dedication to the game. He continued playing professionally overseas, showcasing his skills internationally in the Philippines, France, and Spain. His love for basketball knew no borders and he left a lasting impression wherever he played. Beyond basketball, Alvin was a man of many talents and passions. After his playing days, he was a successful entrepreneur, owning both a carpet business and a construction company that built homes, leaving a tangible legacy of hard work and craftsmanship. He had an infectious personality, always quick with a joke, a laugh, and a warm smile. His love for life was evident in how he uplifted those around him and embraced every moment joyfully. Alvin’s legacy is not merely of athletic talent but of perseverance and humility. As we honor his memory, we hold dear the countless ways he touched lives, inspired dreams, and exemplified the power of dedication and heart. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Raymond Franklin, Sr., and his brothers, Raymond Franklin, Jr. and Donald Ray Franklin. Though we bid farewell, Alvin's spirit will forever live in the hearts of his daughter, Jazmine Green; brothers, Michael Franklin (Sue), Clarence Franklin (Marilyn), and Jerry Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
