Dorothy Mae Roberts Hennigan (Fats) was born on February 21,1945, in Mount Enterprise, Texas to the proud parents of Will and Mattie Roberts. On Sunday, October 16, 2022, she transitioned from her earthly life into eternal rest. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Mattie Roberts, Husband Clayton Hennigan, her sister's Doris Johnson, Essie Mae Roberts, Anne Blanton, her brothers Jack Roberts, Rosko Roberts, Johnny R. Roberts, Willie J. Roberts, Willie R. Roberts and Charles L. Roberts. Fats, as she was affectionately called, was the baby of 11 children. She attended and graduated from Central High School in Galveston, Texas. At the early age of 17, her favorite nephew Rosko (Rockman) Johnson heard her singing around the house one day and discovered that she had a beautiful singing voice. She would sing and he would use metal spoons to pretend that he was beating the drums. He promised her when they were older, he was going to start up a musical band and she would be the lead singer, and he would play the drums. That's when the singing began, and the Family band was created "Lil Willie and the Flame". Her brothers CL, Willie J. and Rockman was the band members, and she did the singing. Dorothy went all over Galveston County singing the blues at various places" Club 26, The ILA Hall, The Moody Civic Center, and Selena's Blue Room. One day Dorothy decided she wanted to use her voice to sing only for The Lord, because he was the only one she could depend on through life's journey. In her spare time, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and tell them about life. She loved kids, and she shared her love for kids at Koala Daycare, Ms. Janie's Daycare Center, Early Childhood Learning Center until her retirement. In the meantime, Dorothy met and married Lloyd Cormier and to that marriage a daughter was born Paula Marie Cormier. She later had two other daughters, Johnetta Cormier and Jarta' Cormier. Dorothy was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist in Galveston, and later became a member of Cathedral of Faith Church where she often led gospel songs on Sunday mornings. She was loved by many and looked forward to seeing her smiling face and hearing her melodious voice. She was known for having a giving heart to her family. She often shared special moments with her grandchildren. Left in God's care and to cherish her loving memories are daughters, Paula Marie Armstead (Greg) of Texas City, TX, Johnetta Clemons of Cypress TX, and Jarta' Cormier of Katy Texas TX, her sister Nola Mae Morris of Texas City, TX, grandchildren, Lasha' (Chris) of Texas City TX, Stacy D. Harris (Jamila) of Houston, TX, DeAndre, Qendall, Kelldrick of Cypress, TX, Jasmine, Jordan and Zachary of Katy, TX . great grandchildren Chris, Braylon, and Chrishe' of Texas City, TX, Caleb and Caylen (Lil Fats) of Katy, TX and Amarie of Houston, TX. She also leaves to cherish a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
