Geneive Simmons Milstead, 87, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024, in Houston, TX, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Port Arthur, TX, on July 26, 1936, to the late Rev. Warren Simmons, Sr. and Maude (Randall) Simmons. Geneive, a dynamic figure in the Port Arthur community, was a proud alumna of Lincoln High School. Her active participation in the Spanish Club and Homemaker Club showcased her dedication to learning and community service. Within months of graduating in May 1955, she married the late Jules Milstead, Jr. of Port Arthur, Tx. She also began her thirty-year career in domestic and professional cleaning services. She continued to enrich her community until the age of 65, when she moved to Houston, TX, to be closer to her children. Geneive, a woman of wisdom, wit, humor, and love, was a beacon of light in her community. Her devotion to her faith was evident in her active participation at The First Baptist Church of Sabine Pass, TX where she shared her musical talents as church pianist. Her warm and welcoming nature made everyone feel heard, valued, and cared for. Her presence was a source of joy, and her infectious smile left a lasting impression on all who met her. Geneive was a devoted mother who loved her eight children, sixteen grands and seven great-grandkids. They were her pride and joy, and she would tell anyone who would listen. She also kept their pictures and accomplishments spread throughout her home. When her granddaughter asked her, "what advice would you give me as a new mom of my baby boy," Geneive warmly replied, "just love him." She was loving and caring and raised her kids with good morals. On frequent occasions, she would say, "God blessed me with some good children," to which her kids would quickly reply, "it's the other way around Ma, God blessed us with a good mother." Geneieve is survived by her children: Dr. Michael Milstead (Kim) Cynthia Milstead, Gerald Milstead, Roxie Milstead Davis (Wyatt, Sr), Dr. Valeria Milstead-Benabdallah (Christopher), Jacqueline Gonsalves, and Gregory Milstead (Sherefa), Grandchildren: Marcus Milstead (Candance)Kenneth Milstead (Junell) Cleophus Brown, Morgan Looney (Angelo), Hilery Milstead Poveda (Allen) Emil Gonsalvez (Carly), Sela Stephens, Wyatt Davis III, Wynton Davis, Samuel Stephens, Rachel Davis, Joshua Brooks and Bradly Spencer (LeTarsha), and great grandkids; Camille, Aria, Peyton, Mila, Parker Lauren and Rowan. Genny was especially close with her loving niece Gwendolyn Simmons of Port Arthur, Tx. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Warren Simmons, Jr., Isaiah Simmons, and Daisy Lee Washington, and her daughter Jennifer Renee Milstead.
