On April 19, 1930, a handsome blessing was welcomed home by his parents, the late John Quincy Miles, Sr. and the late Emma Leday Miles in Grand Prairie, La. He was the 10th child of 13 children and was named John Quincy Miles, II. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Louisiana by the late Pastor James D. Smith. Quincy was educated in the St, Landry Parish School System. As a young child, Quincy lost his biological mother at an early age and became a protector of his two younger siblings; Albert, and Emma Lou. His father, John Miles, Sr. remarried Clementine Thomas and she accepted the three younger siblings as her own. Quincy was lovingly called “Geese”, by his hometown, family and friends. Quincy, later in life moved to Galveston with his cousin, Doretha Arthur whom he loved and respected as a sister. He then moved to Hitchcock, Tx. and while in Hitchcock he met and was United in Holy Matrimony to the beautiful Alice Mae Robinson. To this union, together they nurtured, loved and cared for 10 children; Clementine, Johnny, Quincy, III, Larry, Jerry, Richard, Irene, Alphonso, Edward, Myra along with his bonus family, the Petteway and the Simpson families; Quincy was a hard worker, from Monday through Friday he worked as a mechanic by trade, and on Saturdays and Sundays he was a carpenter, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Quincy allowed his boys to be with him on several jobs so they would learn the value of hard work. He taught them moral values; to be respectful with our tongue, wisdom to accept positive advice and to be humble in our actions. Whenever Quincy was not working, he took pride in his appearance. Always neatly dressed from head to toe with his shoes so shiny you could almost see your reflection. Being a positive role model in neatness and dressing, his children took on the exact same ways of cleanliness. Quincy lived a full life filled with love and shared it with his children, nieces, and nephews. After retiring, Quincy moved back to Hitchcock to live with his son, Larry, and daughter-in-law, Lisa who were exceptional caregivers. On Sunday, February 18, 2024 at 6:43 PM, He peacefully passed from labor to reward with his loved ones by his side. He is preceded in death by his parents, Emma LeDay, John Quincy Miles, Sr. and Clementine Thomas Miles; sons, Johnny Stewart Myles and John Quincy Myles, III; a granddaughter, Tina Louise Milligan Allen and 10 siblings. His legacy will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Clementine Milligan, Larry (Lisa) Myles, Sr., Jerry Myles, Richard (Twana) Myles, Irene Myles, Alphonso (Satanya), Edward (Shanika) Myles and Myra Myles; one brother, Albert Miles; bonus family, the Petteway and the Simpson families; a devoted family friend, Laura “Cookie” Brooks; 23 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Quincy brought such joy to everyone who knew and loved him. “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” II Corinthians 5:8 KJV
