Lawrence Werdlow, III (Red, Molly, Bubba) Lawrence Werdlow, III was born September 5th, to Lawrence and Hazel May Guillory Werdlow in Galveston, Texas. He was baptized at an early age at Rising Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend D. N. Benford, Sr. Lawrence attended public schools in the La Marque School District and graduated from Lincoln High, Class of 1964, oh how he loved his class and he was a very active member up until his health begin to fail. Lawrence went on to attend Prairie View A&M University for 2 years. He began his work journey at Bunge Corporation, and he became the President of ILA Local 80. Later he worked at NASA where he retired in 2011. Over the years, Lawrence and his friend, Jewel Gary operated and managed “Friendly Games” (if you know, you know) and was also the cook. He loved sports so much until he began to play with the Basketball with the Semi Pro Team, War, and the Baseball team, the Hitchcock Hustlers. After playing sports, he started coaching various little league sports teams, beginning with the girls softball team, Honeybees where Katrina, his daughter, was a player, little league baseball, Bears, where Pop, his son, was playing, and he helped form a T Ball team, where he and George coached the Hurricanes, the family team. Later years he went back to coaching Little League again, where Blake, his grandson, was a player. After playing and coaching he started refereeing Little League football and basketball and umpiring baseball. Lawrence was an avid hunter (deer, wild hogs, squirrels and rabbits), He loved passing time killing big 6 and turning the jack. His heart and passion was the 4th of July, that he started celebrating; his 2 grandmother’s birthdays, one was July 4, the other July 11. The celebration was always on whatever day the 4th fell on so everyone didn’t have to ask him every year, they already knew the day. In later years, the family started pitching in and it was moved to his home and became the Werdlow’s Family and Friends Day. Before the help came financially, he would save all year to buy whatever was needed, and he stated if he could no longer afford to feed everyone, he would say, if I have to serve hot dogs, it was to go on. He even had a pit built for cooking that day. Lawrence loved his family dearly, he would visit the sick and shut in always, if he knew about it. He was a talker, always had something to say, right, wrong or different, always shot straight from the hip, you didn’t have to guess. His last passion before his health failed, he was an avid member of the “Tree”. He leaves to cherish memories his wife and friend of over 40 years Karen, whom he affectionately called “Theresa”; stepmom, Mary Ann Werdlow of Pearland, TX; children, Sonya Williams of Long Beach, CA. Katrina Scott (Bennie) of Houston, TX, Angela Jackson of Dickinson, TX. Charlie Shon Werdlow (Nikki) of Texas City, TX, Damita Gray (Larry) of League City, TX, Jerronda Taylor (Terry) of Dickinson, TX and Lawrence Werdlow (Diana) of Texas City, TX.; grandchildren, Robert Jr., Ronald, Veronica, Ashley (Cory), Harold Lee, Yazzmen, Chris, Dalayah, La Dashia, Jonae, Brayden, Demarcus, Dashon, Dashae, Brad, Brock, Blake and Malayah; great-grandchildren, Aniyah, Aubrey, Acori, Cory, Shanelle and Grayson; goddaughter, Christened as a baby, Cymone Mc Neil; siblings, Joseph Broussard, Florence Spencer both of Texas City, TX, Reginald Werdlow of Pompano Beach, FL. Lynn Thessa Marshall of Houston, TX, Woodrow Marshall of Los Angeles, CA, Annette Lastrapes (Lee) of Opelousas, LA, Michaelle Werdlow-Wiggins (Brian) of Pearland, TX, David Riles. Elaine Riles both of Texas City, TX and Phil Riles (Lisa) of Dickinson, TX; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph Harrison (Chandra), Kenneth Harrison, Cassandra Littleton (George) and Al Johnson. He also leaves special families: Henton and Anderson Gang, Caligone Clan, Walter and Adolphus Simms, The Dickinson, Glover, Joubert and Rue families; longtime friends, Elijah Jones “Brown”, Elroy Murray, Nelson Hawkins, Lester Bellow, Charles Robinson (Regina), Ted Mora, James Powers, Roger Wilson and Jewel Gary; hunting buddy, Charlie Davis; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and adopted children.
