In the City of Galveston, on August 6, 1948, God blessed the late Sip Hill Taylor and Isaiah Hightower with a son, Leonard Earl “Tower” Hightower, Sr., the fourth oldest son of their blended family. Leonard was educated in the public schools of Galveston, where he graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1966. After completing high school, Leonard served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He served in active combat during the Vietnam War, and after his brave and honorable service, he received an Honorable Discharge. He confessed to Christ at a young age under the leadership of the late Pastor T.J. Anderson, Sr. of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Galveston, Texas. He later continued his Christian journey under the leadership of Pastor A. W. Colbert at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Leonard faithfully served as a devoted usher until his health was challenged. Leonard was employed by Amoco Oil / BP Petroleum, where he dedicated 35 years of faithful service. He was also an outstanding member of the Front Door Social and Charity Club for over 30 years. Leonard Earl “Tower” Hightower, Sr. peacefully departed this life at his home on March 10, 2026. Everyone who knew Leonard knew he was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. And he left, going to heaven still waiting for their next Super Bowl ring. Leonard loved his family and friends, enjoyed cooking, and was well known for always dressing in top-tier style. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sip Taylor and Isaiah Hightower; his aunt and uncle, Idell and Robert Hill; five brothers, Roland Taylor, Roland Hightower, James Taylor, Lou Taylor, and Sebastian Taylor; and his stepson, Yoshima “Poppa” Greely. After meeting the love of his life, Vianna Lynn Hightower, the two were united in marriage for over 30 years. Through their union, they formed a loving blended family. Leonard leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted wife, Vianna Hightower; his children, Marvin “Speedy” Hightower and Leonard E. Hightower, Jr.; and four stepchildren, Barron Greely, Sr., Tanika Wade, Archie Schooler, and Justin Duke Schooler. He is also survived by his siblings: LeRoy Taylor (Verna), Robert Taylor (Louise), Victor Taylor, Selwyn Taylor, William Taylor, Mardis Taylor, Tony Allen, Carole Steele (Kenneth), and Raidine Taylor. Leonard was also blessed with 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory. Others who will mourn his passing are his dear friends Harold Cash, Mitchell Calvin, James Montgomery, Lance Cleveland, Lincoln Edwards, Jr., and Wilbur Lewis.
