On November 18, 1962, Lisa Elaine was born to the late Patricia Ann and Handy Otis Turner of Galveston, TX. Lisa attended Ball High School in Galveston, TX and furthered her education at the University of Houston, where she found sisterhood with the Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® in the Fall of 1983. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she married the love of her life, Troy Brooks Sr., on April 1, 1985. Of this union were born two beautiful children, Troy Jr. and LaTroya. They relocated from Galveston, TX to Houston, TX where she and Troy Sr. lived until his death on November 30, 1988. Throughout Lisa’s years of service as a Life Member & Silver Star of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® of which she extended her membership to the Alpha Kappa Omega graduate chapter—and other non-profit organizations, Lisa held various leadership positions and achieved several accomplishments. She most recently served as President of the Sugar Valley Chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc.®. Lisa was also awarded the 2020 Graduate Advisor of the Year award for the AKA South Central Region. She was also a member of the Ivy Educational and Charitable Foundation of Houston, Inc., serving as President in 2017. Lisa welcomed her granddaughter Alysia Mykell Brooks of Troy Jr. (son) & Christina Brooks (daughter-in-law) in September of 2011. She loved to take Alysia to sorority meetings and events, braid her hair, go on shopping sprees, and ensure her support for her granddaughter. On the morning of July 10, 2023, Lisa departed this life, peacefully at home surrounded by family. Lisa is preceded in death by her husband, Troy Brooks Sr., grandparents, mother, Patricia Ann Turner, father, Handy Otis Turner, siblings, Leawana Angelina Turner (sister) and Gerald Otis Turner (brother). Left to cherish her memories are her two children, Troy Brooks Jr. (Christina) and LaTroya Brooks; one grandchild, Alysia Brooks; one aunt, Beverly Turner; two siblings, Cheryl Buchanan and Daris Turner Sr.; nephews, Lamar Turner, Aubrey Turner, Christopher Buchanan and Daris Turner Jr.; nieces, D’Shawn Merida, NyKisha Owens (Thomas), Andrea Thompson (Don), Constance French, Keyairra Turner, Paris Turner and a host of great nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
