On October 17, 2023, God sent an angel to transition Donald Brightmon, who was also called “Donnie” by some, from his earthly home to his heavenly home. Donnie was born in Wharton, TX, on February 17, 1945, to Wiley Brightmon and Dora Stevens. He was the baby of seven children and educated in the Wharton ISD. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Wharton, TX. Donnie relocated to Texas City, TX, and joined the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor B. J. Hunter where he met and married Margaret March in June of 1965, and was married for 31 years. To this union, they celebrated the life and love of three children born, Donna Michell, Darrell Jerome, and Dana Dianne. Donnie worked for Penzoil for over 20 years in Galveston, TX, then went on to work as the Maintenance Supervisor for Clear Creek ISD where he retired from due to his health. Before his poor health condition, Donnie was an active and faithful member of the Male Chorus and Brotherhood. Early every Saturday morning (unless it was raining), you were sure to see him up washing the cars and manicuring his yard… and don’t cut that corner while you are walking down the street and walk through the yard on his grass! That was a definite nono, LOL. When the day was done, you would find him lounging in his favorite recliner, watching an old cowboy movie and drinking a glass of “Coke a Cola.” He was a Houston Texans fan, but his first love was definitely the Houston Oilers. Awaiting his heavenly arrival are his parents; brothers, Herman Brightmon and James Brightmon; sisters, Alberta Brightmon, Bernice Brightmon Francis, and Vernell Brightmon Johnson. Donnie leaves a rich legacy of love in the hearts of his children, Donna Michelle Brightmon, Darrell Jerome Brightmon (Denise), Dana Brightmon Winston, and Lisa and Sandra Ivy; grandchildren, Mon’Trice Nichole Brightmon, Samuellis Brightmon Richardson, Taras De’Mon Winston II, DaNae’ P. Winston, Matthew Joseph Brightmon Richardson, and Gabrielle Brieanna Brightmon; mother of his children, Margaret March; step-grandchildren, Camden and Courtlyn Boxie; sister, Joyce Brightmon Moore (Austin); godson, Christopher Woodard; goddaughter, Shaun Stonum; special friend, Kimberly Shannon (her son, Jordan Washington); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
