On the evening of November 29, 2023, our beloved Jacqueline V. Gill awakened from a peaceful nap and very clearly expressed to others in her room that she was ready to answer her heavenly Father’s call. Those present could only guess that while she was asleep, she heard sweet melodies from heaven’s angelic choir, the soft stroke of heaven’s grand piano’s keys and the comforting sound of GOD asking her to accept her heavenly reward…ETERNAL PEACE. Shortly after sunset that evening, Jackie took her final breath at UTMB Victory Lakes in League City, TX and her soul was welcomed into the gates of heaven to reside eternally with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jacqueline V. Gill, affectionately known to many as “Jackie”, entered the world on October 18, 1951, in Galveston County, making Tressa R. Scott and Preston Dawson proud parents. While her Mother Tressa Rose completed her college career, Jackie was raised by her doting maternal grandparents, Willie B Simpson-Scott and Walter Scott for several years. Doyle Bryant and Tressa Rose married and as loving parents they helped Jackie navigate life. As a young child she was enrolled in the public school system in LaMarque ISD. Jackie attended Booker T. Washington Elementary and later graduated from the historical Lincoln-Woodland High School in 1970. Jackie furthered her educational journey and became an alum of Texas Southern University in Houston, TX. Jackie earned her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Math. Jackie’s passion for music and instruments started during her early childhood years while singing in the choir and playing in the band at her schools. She later fine-tuned her gift of playing instruments by learning to play B-Clarinet and later mastering the piano. For over 50 years, Jackie played piano and directed choirs for various churches between Houston and Galveston. Music was her life and love. August 24, 1985, James L. Gill of Angleton, TX and Jackie were united by Rev. H.A. Ratcliff Jr at Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church. Jackie honored her vows to James and spent many loving years with him until he departed this life. Jackie was employed with The University of Houston – Main campus as a Librarian for several years and later transferred her skills and dedication to The City of Houston’s Court Operations Division of the Municipal Courts Department. On November 30, 2013, The City of Houston honored Jackie with a Proclamation that stated, “Jacqueline Gill was one such skilled individual, having served the city and its citizens with dedication, diligence and professionalism since February 4, 1995.” Post retirement Jackie found a new passion for helping others via her tax preparation services company, JI Tax Services. Jackie was loyal to her clients for many years, offering quality service. She was a member of Sweet Aster Court #327 Heroines of Jericho. She loved watching football, traveling and spending quality time with family and friends. Awaiting Jackie’s heavenly arrival was her husband, James Gill; her parents Doyle and Tressa Bryant and Father Preston Dawson; maternal grandparents Walter and Willie B Scott, maternal aunts Vera Smith and Alpha Gerard, brothers Alvin (James) Bryant, Rev. Mark Austin and sister Lula Houston. Left to cherish memories of her witty personality, infectious smile, profound musical gifts and admirable strength is her brother, Reginald Scott of Texas City; sister Francesca (Denise) Jones (Kevin) of Duncanville, TX; nephews Maurice Scott and Terrance Scott of Texas City; nieces, Temicka (Nikki) Collett (Marcus) of Humble, TX, Tekisha Carrasco (Uriel) of Dallas, TX and Kelsey Jones of Dallas, TX. Great nieces that she took pride in helping raise later in her life, DeOmi Scott, Channelle McAllister; great nieces Jordyn Scott, Taylhar Brooks, Londyn Scott, Barbara Scott, Hazel Johnican, Paisley Johnican and Blaise Coffey; great nephews, Kamren Scott, Jett Carrasco and Cassian Hardeman-Scott; Goddaughter, Alexis Gibson. A very special cousin, Dorothy Lewis of Pearland, TX and many members of the Dawson Family. Jackie cherished all her friendships and connections with others in this life. She was extremely grateful for Cathryn Crawford, Ella Hill, Rev Herbert and Sis Elana Long, Dana Simmons-Soloman, classmates of Lincoln-Woodland Class of 1970 for the love and support that was shown throughout her life and specifically during her final days on earth. Jackie was will be missed by a host of other Family and Friends. “Death is nothing at all, I have only slipped into the next room I am I and you are you Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, Speak to me in the easy way which you always used Put no difference in your tone, Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, Let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was, there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, Just around the corner. All is well.”
