Love is patient, love is kind, love does not envy or boast, it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way, it is not irritable or resentful. It does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hope all things, endures all things. Love never fails. Deacon James Johnson High Pocket James Ray Johnson was born in Galveston, TX on November 17,1949 to Betty Ruth (Holmes) and Joe Johnson Sr. James attended LaMarque public schools. He completed his education, graduating from Lincoln High School, LaMarque, TX as a proud graduate of the Class of 1968. After graduation, James served in the United States Navy and he was also an active reservist. James worked at Amoco Oil Company as a Machinist, Texas Department of Corrections (TDC) as a Guard, and Union Pacific Railroad as a Tracman. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2021. After retirement James loved to travel. James loved and appreciated all sports. He was an advocate Dallas Cowboy fan. He enjoyed watching old western movies and television shows. James loved the Lord and was a former member of Greater Macedonia Baptist Church under the late Pastor S. A. Anderson. He later united with Mt. Gilead Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Michael Porter Sr. James loved his church, his Pastor and his church family. Because of his faithful service, James was ordained as a Deacon on November 17, 2024 on his birthday. James was a kind and loving man, he loved his family and friends, and he was always available to them. With James, no one was a stranger, everyone was welcomed. He married the love of his life, Alice Johnson and were happily together for 40 years. God makes no mistakes and on February 5, 2025, God called James home in Friendswood, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Betty Ruth and Joe Johnson Sr; brothers, Joe Johnson Jr and Terry Johnson; sister, Stephanie Johnson; mother-in-law, Arie Yoakum; father-in-law, Ruben Yoakum Sr; brother-in-law, Oliver Wendell Holmes; and sister-in-law, Deborah Yoakum. Left with cherished memories is his loving and devoted wife of 40 years Alice Johnson, of LaMarque, TX; son, Harold Johnson of Texas City, TX; brother, Stephen Johnson (Carrie) of Austin, TX; brothers-in-law, Ruben Yoakum Jr. (Tamara) of Texas City, TX, Larry Yoakum Sr. (Maggie) of Austin, TX; sisters-in-laws, Gloria Yoakum of Houston, TX, Aletha Celestine and Marilyn Yoakum of Texas City, TX; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. James was thankful and appreciative of the special people who were in his life, Darren Rosemond, Wilson Josey, Warren Sullen, Billy Harris, and Lafayette McKinney who will forever cherish his memory.
