Joe T. Josey

Joe T. Josey, affectionately known as “Pear,” was born on April 12, 1940, in Huntsville, Texas, to the late Joe T. Josey, Sr. and Earnie B. Josey. He peacefully transitioned from this life on February 4, 2026. Joe moved to Galveston, Texas in 1957 to begin building his life and legacy. A proud graduate of Huntsville High School, he later attended trade school to pursue his passion for mechanics. Joe was a gifted mechanic who truly loved working with his hands. He retired after many dedicated years of service, including 30 years with UTMB and 30 years with the City of Galveston in housekeeping operations. One of Joe’s greatest passions was racing Ford cars. He loved building them, working on them, and talking about them. Racing was not just a hobby it was a lifestyle. Whether under the hood fine-tuning an engine or sharing stories about the track, Joe found joy in the craftsmanship and thrill of Ford racing. He also enjoyed working alongside his brothers, strengthening both engines and family bonds. More than anything, Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a great family man who loved his family deeply. He was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Ophelia Josey, and together they shared 44 beautiful years of love, commitment, and partnership. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe T. Josey, Sr. and Earnie B. Josey; and his sibling, Burdittis Josey. Joe leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife, Ophelia Josey; his children, Ronnie (Donetra) and Anthony; his grandchildren, Crystal Vasquez, Jordan Josey, Breia Josey, Alexis Josey and Chase Jones; his siblings, Wilson (Eloise) Josey, Joe B. (Dorothy) Josey; sister-in-law, Shirley Josey; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Joe T. Josey’s legacy will live on through the engines he built, the wisdom he shared, and the love he poured into his family. He will be remembered for his strength, his mechanical brilliance, his steady presence, and his unwavering devotion to his family. Those honored to serve as Active Casket Bearers are Renee Alexander, James Winston Jr., Lonnie W. Sr., Darrell W. Sr., Kevin Ron Wyatt, and Christopher Josey. Honorary Casket Bearers are his two beloved sons.
