A Life Well Lived Margaret Ann Hobgood entered this world on October 13, 1948, in Galveston, Texas, blessing her parents, James Rudy and Ruby Lee Ashford Hobgood Sr., with a precious gift that would forever change their lives. Margaret received her education from the public schools of LaMarque, Texas, and graduated from Lincoln High School, where she flourished in various aspects of her life. As a cheerleader and majorette, she embodied leadership and enthusiasm. She was awarded a Fine Arts scholarship from Prairie View A&M University. She embraced her faith and found profound solace and spiritual growth through her membership at Greater Bell Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City. At Greater Bell Zion, she sang in the choir, served on the Usher Board, and contributed to various ministries. Her spiritual journey led her to Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church in Texas City, before eventually bringing her back to her home church, Greater Bell Zion. Here, she continued her unwavering commitment to serving the Lord, deepening her faith and involvement in the church community. Margaret found love and unity with her beloved husband, Leslie Dean Bunton, in Texas City, beginning a new chapter of happiness and fulfillment in her life. Her commitment to care for others was demonstrated in her 15-year career as a CNA. After dedicating herself to serving others in this role, she found fulfillment working for the Texas City Independent School District. She enjoyed singing, shopping, playing dominoes, and sharing moments with loved ones. Empowered by her faith, she also spread hope as an ordained minister of the Gospel and was a member of the Triple B Riding Club and the 1867 Settlement AAHPC. Margaret’s life was a testament to the power of love and faith. She lived each day with purpose, dignity, and undoubtable left memories on all those she met. On July 29, 2024, she transitioned to her eternal home, where she was welcomed by her parents, Rudy and Ruby Hobgood Sr., her husband, Leslie Bunton, and loved ones who had gone before her. Her legacy of love will continue to inspire her loving family: Son, Bert W. Whittington III (Katrina), Daughter, Ruby Wright (Carl); six bonus children through marriage; Brother, Edward L. Rose, Jr. (Rosita), Sister, Joyce Hobgood Allen, Sister, Clarice Hobgood Thompson (Brian), Sister, Hortence “Tiny” Hobgood, Brother, James Rudy Hobgood Jr., Grandchildren, Bert Whittington IV, Christopher Whittington, Myles Whittington, Nelson Brown III, Andrew Malone, Cassidy Wright, Jabraun Copeland (Elaine), and Dejuan Copeland; and 20 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
