Nita B. Moore

On November 21, 1932, in Brenham, Texas, a beautiful baby girl was born to John and Birdie Ray. They named their precious daughter Nita Bell Ray. From the very beginning, Nita's life was rooted in faith, family, and a heart for serving others. Nita received her education in the public schools of Austin County. She later attended Conroe Normal and Industrial College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Missionary studies in May 1969. Continuing her passion for helping others, she earned her Nursing Degree from Galveston College in September 1969. Her dedication to education and service became the foundation of a career devoted to caring for others. Nita was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, James E. Moore. Together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage until his untimely passing. Their union was blessed with six children, whom they lovingly raised together. In addition to their own children, Nita and James opened their hearts and home to Tasha Lockett, raising and loving her as their own. A woman of unwavering strength and compassion, Nita was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, treasured great-grandmother, and faithful friend. She dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a nurse at Galveston County Memorial Hospital, where she compassionately served countless patients throughout her career. Her kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Nita was a faithful member of Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas, where she loved the Lord and faithfully served her church family. She believed in treating everyone with kindness, extending grace, and putting God first in all that she did. On July 18, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, Nita peacefully entered into eternal rest at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James E. Moore; her parents, John and Birdie Ray; her daughters, Marilyn Feast and Brenda Hawkins; her son, Larry Moore; her granddaughter, Janisha Nicole Flemon-Sneed; her great-grandsons, Nehemiah Z. Clouser and Joshua J. Feast; and her siblings, Hattie Ray Lockett, Myrtle Ray Calton, Reedy Ray, Woodrow Ray, L.E. Ray McCoy, Alberta Ray McBride, John Ray Jr., Alfred Ray, and Chris Ray. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving children, Deborah Moore, Janice Moore Spry, Lynita Moore Dupree, and Tasha Lockett, godson, Timothy Wayne Parker; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Nita's life was a beautiful reflection of love, resilience, faith, and selfless service. Whether she was caring for her family, comforting a patient, or encouraging a friend, she gave of herself wholeheartedly. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched, the values she instilled, and the love she shared so freely. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
