Norma Ray Thomas peacefully departed this life at age 101 on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. Born August 16, 1923, in Crosbyton, Texas to Wesley Jasper, Sr. and Anna Jasper, Norma spent her childhood in Galveston, Texas with her eight siblings and parents. Norma was baptized at a young age at Live Oak Baptist Church. She graduated from Galveston Central High School in 1942 before nursing school where she earned her diploma to become an LVN. She worked over 30 years at the University of Texas Medical Branch before retiring. In 1944, Norma married James E. Thomas of Galveston and moved to LaMarque, Texas. Years later Norma and James were blessed with two beautiful daughters that were her pride and joy. While living in LaMarque, Norma became a member of Greater Bell Zion Missionary Baptist church where she remained an active member until her health declined. She was also a member of the Courts of Calanthe. Norma was a strong, compassionate, and giving person with the most beautiful smile. She was adored by an abundance of friends, and especially her family. She was also an active supporter and protector of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was adamant about teaching them about God and the Bible. Norma was always available for her family and friends to lend them her listening ear and countless words of love and wisdom. She was an extraordinary woman. Norma was preceded in death by her daughter Rhonda Durand, mother and father, Wesley Jasper Sr. and Anna Jasper, sisters Dorothy Smith and Lula Price, brothers Wesley Jasper Jr. and Harold Jasper, along with six nieces and nephews. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Janice Lenor (Eldridge), sisters, Minnie Elmore and Thomasine Harden, brothers, Walter Jasper Sr.(Gladys) and Cecil Jasper, grandchildren, Eldrisha Eubanks (Joel), Albert Durand Jr, Chelsie Lenor, Alexis Durand, great-grandchildren, Alazia Durand, Kamryn Lewis, Ahnyah Durand, Jaelyn Eubanks, Jeremie Lenor, Joel “Scoot” Eubanks II and Alayah Robbins, as well as two great-great granddaughters. Norma is also survived by a host of beloved nieces and nephews, cousins, dear friends and extended family members. A very special thanks to the former Mildred House, Doll House Enterprises, and Accent Hospice care.
