Our cherished Susan Ann Jones was a blessing born to Charles Webb and Polly Mae Geter on August 29, 1945 in Dallas, Texas marking the start of a remarkable life devoted to serving others. Susan’s educational journey began in the public schools of LaMarque, Texas and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School where she spread her enthusiasm as a Cheerleader; and further pursued her passion for Nursing by attending Prairie View A & M University and College of the Mainland. At an early age, she began her spiritual journey, accepting Christ and being baptized at Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church. She has been a devoted and dedicated member of Greater Bell Zion Missionary Baptist Church for over 45 years, faithfully serving in various ministries, including the Health Awareness Ministry, General Missionary Society, Youth Matron, Usher’s and Nurse’s Ministry, Welcoming Committee, founder of Family and Friends Day, the Culinary Ministry and the Pastor’s Aide Ministry. A shining star in her profession as a Nurse, she retired from Mainland Center Hospital in Texas City after 30+ years of remarkable service, blazing trials as the first African American Nurse in the ICU, and also making a profound impact in Telemetry, Emergency Room, Occupational Therapy and other departments. Susan was an asset to the organizations she held membership in including: the LVN Nurses Association; the Order of Eastern Star; the Lincoln Memorial Reunion Committee and a loyal member of Old Landmark Baptist District Association where she served as Chair for the Nurse’s Aide and Usher’s Ministry. In her precious spare time, she enjoyed cooking, serving the community and cherishing time with her loved ones. With an unwavering dedication, she tackled every challenge that came her way, inspiring countless individuals that came her way with perseverance and unrelenting spirit. There was never a task too hard for her and most of the time, she completed each and every one. On the morning of Friday, February 27, 2025, her earthly journey was completed, and she entered her eternal rest. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Jones, Sr., parents, Charles Webb and Polly Mae Ivy; siblings, Angela Jones, Samantha Jones, Charles Jones, Jr., Ruth Johnson and Charlie Bee Agbonkonkon. Left to honor her inspiring legacy and treasure precious memories of her life are her children: Muriel Jones, Pauletta Jones Triplett and Charles Jones, III; brother, Roland Dexter Ivy; sisters, Pauline Ivy and Diane Johnson; seven grandchildren, Astacia Jones, Asia Ward, Ascza’el Wilbert, Tailor Wilson, Naaman Lockhart Jr., Zshanelle Jones, Joshua Jones; nine great-grandchildren, Avan Hunter, Ani Hunter, Kevin Ward, Jr., Kaden Evans, Kaylee Wilson, Karma Wilson, Karleigh Wilson, Neiman Wilson, Jr., and Kalani Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members, friends and her Greater Bell Zion Church Family.
